During his stay in London, Claude Monet admired the blue of the fog that enveloped Westminster Abbey and the Thames. It’s known that, sketchbook in hand, he studied how the same spot on the Thames changed depending on the light conditions.

He then began painting landscapes in series to capture the different transitional states of nature at different times and in different weather conditions. One of these landscapes by Monet is “The Thames Below Westminster”.
